As Royals #6 begins, Castor and Paul attempt to appeal to Daeshim’s better nature, but he’s of the belief that what he’s doing is right, still. He explains his loyalty to Park, and extends an offer to join them.

Which is when the battle begins anew. Mid-battle, Paul and Minah apologize for how things went earlier, Daeshim threatens Minee to Minah’s face. He takes her out of the fight, causing the Wahng twins to retaliate.

The battle royale continues on, and Daeshim gets the upper hand. But thanks to Minah’s reentry into the fray, the Wahngs survive. Before she can kill Daishim, though, Park emerges with Minee, threatening to kill her. Minah offers herself in exchange, only to be shot. Before Park can kill Paul and Castor, though, the cops show up, led by…Alex, who’s been working undercover and had Paul wear a wire to gather intel.

A tense standoff ensues, and Park is crushed by a falling cross. The sisters are reunited, but Minah seriously needs a doctor. And as things seem to wind down, Daeshim turns out to not be dead…only to be gunned down by Minee.

At the hospital, Minah’s recovering nicely, and she’s requested to be in a room next to…Park, who’s in a coma. Why? So she and Minee, with their dream-related abilities, can give him some well-deserved nightmares.

So, after reading this whole story, I’m left with only one question…what in the ever-loving HELL is Father Park made out of!?! In just this final fight alone, there’s an electrocution (taser to the puddle of water he’s standing in), a ginormous freaking cross landing on him, and he gets shot at multiple times. Somehow, the bullets don’t touch him. He seems just as surprised about that as Castor, by the way. And honestly, if that cross had killed him, it would have been the most appropriate way for him to die.

He’d committed atrocities while wearing the priest collar, all in the name of God. So, to have the very symbol of Christianity do him in would have been great.

Same time, though, his actual fate is also quite fitting. Minah and Minee had suffered through a lot because of Park and Daeshim, so it’s only fair that the two of them get their revenge. Plus, with the way the story played out, there weren’t a ton of opportunities to utilize their dream abilities. But then using that to pull a Freddy Krueger on him? Love that.

The action scenes for this story have always been great, but they’re at their most chaotic in Royals #6. Amidst the gunfire and punches, we’ve also got characters clearing the air with each other. A highlight of that aspect was with Paul and Minah. They apologize for how things went, the speech bubbles overlap as they try to talk over each other, one of their opponents yells for them to just hook up already (and the facial expressions drawn for them in this moment are priceless).

The closest thing, mid-battle, that anyone gets to having a moment to breathe is when Castor and Paul are pinned beneath the rubble of the pipe organ. They apologize to each other, reaffirm their brotherly love, thinking they’re about to die…

I also appreciate that the biblical artifact that was used as a plot device at the beginning makes an appearance here. Seriously, everyone has a part to play in that climax: the Hammer gets used in a few attacks, Minee getting the chance to get back at Daeshim for a moment for all she’s been through…

And then we come to Alex. When he’s first introduced in issue 1, you don’t really get what he’s all about. When he’s apparently working with the Bloody Cocks, it’s enough of a surprise. And then here, we find he’s an undercover cop. This man’s got some layers to him, and that makes it all the more entertaining.

Final Thoughts

Royals #6 has everything: intense action, emotional closure, and a reunion between two sisters that’ve been split for far too long. It’s a perfect way to end it.
