Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #120 — The Story

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #120 begins as a kind alien woman keeps an eye on a group of scared orphans. She tells the story of thee creation and mission of the Solar Power Rangers of the Void. Here these Rangers are in a struggle against Dark Specter’s infection. The alien woman is revealed as the Orange Ranger and she joins her team in the fight. This skirmish is successful but the battle all across the Void rages on.

In a moment of respite, Ari the Purple Ranger and leader of this team of Rangers has a tough decision to make. She has to protect the planet made up of Zeo Crystals or all of reality will be infected. Her plan is to cut off the part of the Void that has not been infected from the Morphin Grid once more. When this happens the planet will be safe. Her team is afraid of this idea. They try to talk her out of it. One of the children approaches ari while she is deep in thought. The child looks to her and her partner Remi as her family and she is afraid.

Later Ari and Remi discuss the plan. Remi suggests that they keep the plan alive burt only as a last resort. Suddenly Dark Specter’s generals along with some infected Rangers attack. Three Solar Rangers are already morphed and fight to repel the attackers. Ari morphs and joins the fight leaving Remi with the children to protect them. She is not morphed. Soon the children attack and Remi attempts to morph but becomes infected.

The other Rangers escape with the civilians. Ari hears the story of the children about the Power rangers. Ari makes up her mind to execute her plan to sever the Void from the Grid. With her is a captive Ranger Sayer.

Analysis

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #120 is a story that continues to drag on. I really do not know how many issues it has been up to this point but every issue does not seem to get us to an ending. Here we shift focus from the defending Rangers on earth to the Void. It was billy’s plan to contact the Void and also after the intel from the infected Tonya Sloan, the Yellow Zeo Ranger we know that Dark Specter is also going to the Void.

This issue chronicles the battle there but it does not show us the entrance of the good Rangers. Who went and are there more or are they infected as well. None of those questions are answered. Again slow storytelling in favor of shock reveals does not add to the suspense of the story. I like to see progression and just when there seems to be progression, the heroes are getting they new wind and are formulating a plan, another setback?

The art is still enjoyable. The aliens are a colorful mix of species that are pleasant to look at.

There is some character development among the Solar Rangers in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #120. Yellow and Red have a budding romance that they make known to each other in this dire situation. I am a sucker for pure love but it just feels flat in this overarching story. We already have several couples to follow and now there is another one?

I just want the story to ove somewhere and going to the Void in disarray is not the destination I was looking for. We still do not know the fate of the Hyperforce Rangers on their mission. The difference is that that is not mentioned in this mission but it is still an annoying payoff to wait for.

Final Thoughts

My heart has been broken many times by this arch. I want to see the finality, I want to see how this is fixed, but when will we see the payoff? When will we see the story progression? My hope is that this will read better in a trade collection. I just wish Boom just released this in a trade.
