Joe Benitez’s fan-favorite series Lady Mechanika has found a new home. The series, which has been self-published by Benitez for years is making the move to Image Comics. In a recently released statement, Image Comics announced that the Steampunk adventure series will have a new home at Image Comics being with Free Comic Book Day this August 14. After FCBD, Image will launch a new series beginning in September.

Not only will the new series be coming to the independent publisher, but Benitez, who has published volumes of the series on his own since taking it away from Aspen Comics, will make the entire backlist of the series available through Image beginning in August.

This is a homecoming for Benitez. He got his start working at Image under Marc Silvestri’s imprint Top Cow Productions before going out on his own. “We’re pleased to welcome Joe back to Image,” said Eric Stephenson, Image’s Publisher and CCO. “What he has built for himself with Lady Mechanika is truly impressive, and it’s exciting to be part of what comes next for this incredible series.”

“I’m very excited that Lady Mechanika is moving to Image!” Benitez said in the statement. “We hope this move will provide an opportunity to share the series with a new, wider audience, and also give us more time to focus on our creative strengths while letting the experts at Image handle publishing and marketing. We have so many stories to tell, hopefully this will help us get more of them out faster. The next story arc we’re calling ‘The Monster of the Ministry of Hell-th’ will deal with a piece of Lady Mechanika’s haunted past. Check out a preview of the new book in our FCBD issue!”

August’s FCBD edition will feature the reprint of the story “The Demon of Satan’s Alley,” which introduced readers to the steampunk world and its heroine. It will also provide a preview to the new series premiering in September.
