Talajic takes us to a destroyed Earth where Deadpool has killed off everyone, leaving me to think that we’re taking off where we were left. Wade takes a minute to reflect upon his actions leaving nothing but destruction and desolation. But before too long he’s snuck up on by The Nth Man who blames all of the destruction that he has wandered upon on Wade, they engage in combat but it doesn’t last long, hardly a test for Deadpool. He then hears a slow clap coming from behind him by a woman called Alphea who uses an advanced piece of technology to transport herself and Wade to an alternative Universe/realm.

Bunn’s choice of short but witty dialogue lends itself greatly to the first few pages of action and gives us the whit that we all know and love from our favourite Mercenary. Combined along with Talajic’s great use of different perspectives and distances give you a real sense of the destroyed Earth we first find ourself on. His use of expression through just the eyebrows and eyes also helps greatly in figuring out how exactly Wade is taking all of this.

Once Alphea gets Wade to her world, she shows him all of the failed Deadpool’s that had tried out for this mission but had failed. Wade seems awestruck as he stares out in to the distance, taking in all of the dead Deadpool’s. After agreeing to Aphea’s task of killing off a lot of different hero’s/villains within the multiverse, she also explains that there are some Universes he is not meant to go to, he is only to travel to those on the device that she shares with him, as that has biometric markers for all of his targets loaded in to already.

At this point I was rather impressed with the way in which Bunn has set this up, it didn’t feel stale as though the idea had been used previously in a title similar to this before, and again the Artwork from Talajic captures great expression from the close-ups with both Alphea and Wade. Leaving you knowing exactly how the dialogue should be read and how the characters are feeling at that particular moment in the panels.

Wade’s first target is that of Spider-Man, Superior Spider-Man to be exact. But Wade wasn’t to know this upon first contact with him, until the legs similar to that of Doctor Octopus appeared. Once Deadpool had dealt with the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, he travels to another universe where he has to take down “Franken-Castle”, and undead version of the Punisher, I personally found this part to be quite comical with the play on words so closely associated to that of Frank Castle, The Punisher.

After that he went to take on Kraven the Hunter’s Daughter Ana Kravinoff, then after that he moved on to The Beast, who is a Demon Possessed version of Daredevil. Once all of these have been dealt with Deapool moves on yet again being transported to the world of The World Breaker Hulk, who turns out to be Deapool’s most difficult challenge so far, until Hulk vanishes into thin air, leaving Wade questioning where he’s gone in the comical way that Deadpool does so well.

Again with the dialogue in the fight scenes with all of these characters Bunn has managed to capture the essence of Deadpool so well, the whit and quickness that we have all come to know through reading the other Deadpool titles and watching the blockbuster movies.

After the contemplation of the disappearance of the Hulk, Wade too gets transported, but this time to that of a world that is seemingly more familiar to him, with Heroes that seem all too familiar. Alphea appears in hologram form to explain that he’s travelled to a Universe that this time does not need destroying, but saving. Which comes as a complete shock to Deadpool, given his track record and history of destruction, he doesn’t consider himself the hero type, maybe this is where he changes his ways? Who knows? I guess we find out next month in Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe One Last Time #2.

I thoroughly enjoyed Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe One Last Time #1, much like I enjoyed reading the first Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe. There was a perfect balance of story, dialogue, and action which helped pace this issue perfectly, the Artwork was brilliant in terms of getting across emotion and expression through the very limited amount of facial features that Deadpool possess’, but Talajic did a phenomenal job with what he had. Can’t wait to see how Deadpool has to help save this universe in the next issue, but hopefully there’s some more death and destruction to come, in true Deadpool style!
