DC Comics Announces Pride Month Events

The month of June is Pride Month in the United States. Across the country, Americans will be participating in events to celebrate pride and support members of the LGTBQIA+ community. On Thursday, DC Comics announced their own plans to celebrate Pride Month. in a statement released on their website, DC Comics announced the release of DC Pride #1, an 80-page anthology celebrating the LGTBQIA+ pride and the characters of the DC Universe who are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. DC Pride #1 is set to go on sale Tuesday, June 8 at local comic shops and digitally. The anthology will feature stories on some of DC fans’ favorite characters created by some of the best creators the publisher has to offer. The first slate of stories appearing in the will feature the following characters:

 

  • Batwoman (Kate Kane) by James Tynion IV & Trung Le Nguyen
  • Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn by Mariko Tamaki & Amy Reeder
  • Midnighter by Steve Orlando & Stephen Byrne
  • Flash of Earth-11 (Jess Chambers) by Danny Lore & Lisa Sterle
  • Green Lantern (Alan Scott) & Obsidian by Sam Johns & Klaus Janson
  • Aqualad (Jackson Hyde) by Andrew Wheeler & Luciano Vecchio
  • Dreamer by Nicole Maines & Rachel Stott
  • Renee Montoya by Vita Ayala and Skylar Patridge
  • Pied Piper by Sina Grace, Ro Stein & Ted Brandt

DC Pride #1 will mark the first comic appearance of Dreamer, the transgender hero introduced on the CW’s series Supergirl and will be written Maines, who plays the character on the TV series. The anthology will also include pin-ups from Travis Moore, Mildred Louis, Sophie Campbell, and others. A variant cover by Jen Bartel will also be available.

Pride Themed Variant Covers Also Announced

DC’s announcement also included news on a line of variant covers in its main books during the month of June celebrating LGBTQIA+ characters and creators. The titles receiving Pride variants include:

Pride Celebration Extends Beyond the Month of June

DC’s celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community is not limited to the events in June. The publisher also discussed the release of Crush and Lobo #1, which features one of the former stars of Teen Titans and Titans Academy, Crush, as she deals with the fallout of breaking up with her girlfriend. To help deal with the matter, she confronts her bounty hunter father Lobo. The mini series will run through the rest of the year into 2022. DC also announced the release of graphic novels such as Poison Ivy: Thorns from Kody Keplinger and I Am Not Starfire from Marilo Tamaki & Yoshi Yoshitani, being released in July.
