The 12-part maxi series kicks of in July with Dark Knights of Steel II #1 from Tom Taylor and artist Otto Schmidt.
DC Comics announced on Monday (April 13th) a new comic book series title Dark Knights of Steel II. The 12-part maxi series returns Tom Taylor to another volume of his medieval universe that will bring a new age of war, magic, and destiny. The new series will team Taylor with veteran artist Otto Schmidt.
As before, Dark Knights of Steel II is set in the world where familiar heroes like Superman and Batman live in medieval times. In the first series, the great kingdoms—including the House of El and the Amazons—joined forces to fight shape-shifting enemies. Now, the peace they created is about to collapse as a new war begins.
“I was raised on comic books and fantasy novels,” Tom Taylor shared in the press release. “From as early as I can remember, my mind has been filled with universes of great heroes standing against corrupting evil and injustice… Dark Knights of Steel II is a twisted tale of power and betrayal, of war and love, of heroes fighting would-be tyrants, and of good people coming together to stand against evil, expansionist empires.”
Dark Knights of Steel II #1 will arrive in stores on July 15, 2026. Tom Taylor said he is very excited to mix fantasy stories with superheroes again. He noted that the new series will be a twisted tale of power, betrayal, war, and love.

In addition to the main story, a special companion story, Dark Knights of Steel II Special: Heir to the Sea #1, will be released a week later on July 22, 2026. This special comic collects the origin story of Aquaman in Taylor’s world of Dark Knights of Steel that first appeared in Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter.
