In this review of Witchblade #2, Sara suffers the after effects of the massacre from issue 1. She is no closer to understanding what the Witchblade is doing to her physically and psychologically.

Witchblade #2 — The Story
Witchblade #2 begins with Sara Pezzini is in a cell. The police are trying to clear up the massacre at the warehouse. The reason for Sara being there is not known. Her partners are trying to convince the brass she was working a human trafficking ring. Sara hopes that they will not reveal that she is really investigating corruption and the death of her father. She was released but she was suspended for two weeks pending an investigation.
She has other things to worry about. The amulet she is wearing seems to give her heightened feelings and senses. She ever starts to wonder if her body is even hers anymore. She has a ravenous appetite and heightened biological needs.
In addition when there is danger the amulet becomes a body of armor and is deadly as well as protective. She seems to be unable to control this transformation.
After a night with a one night stand, the man leaves quickly. Sara reached orgasm so quickly and with great intensity. Afterwards, their is a knock on the door. A creep trying to get back into the Vinter’s Syndicate decides that the death of Sara will help. The Witchblade activates and she ends up slicing the creep in half. Sara has no control over this.
Analysis
Not a lot of action in this story. It is more of a psychological piece exploring how Sara is physically and mentally affected by the Witchblade. She has no understanding or control as to what is happening to her physically and mentally. This situation now takes center stage in her mind, even overshadowing her corruption investigation and her desire for revenge for the death of her father.
This could be what is feeding the Witchblade. It lashes out so violently because it is being fed by Sara’s internal rage and desire for revenge. This is actually becoming a good examination of emotions and how they can affect the well being of a person.
Kenneth Irons is not forgotten in this story. He is using Nottingham to continue his surveillance of Sara. Irons for his part also has electronic surveillance on her as well. He is waiting for his time. He is waiting for Sara to completely self-destruct as a result of the Witchblade. My question is what does Irons want with the Witchblade. I doubt he wants to put it in a museum. In addition he seems to know that the Witchblade only rafts itself to women. How is Irons going to harness the power since he is male?
The art is very detailed. The power of the Witchblade is brutally depicted. It is savage in its actions. At the same time it is defensive. It only comes out when it feels attacked.
Final Thoughts
Not much forward momentum in the overall plot. It is important however to establish the power and effects of the Witchblade. In the last issue it only appeared to have a hypnotic effect on the host until it found Sara. Now it is a weapon of immense and brutal power.
