It’s a new week and that can only mean one thing. It’s time to reveal our latest picks for this upcoming New Comic Book Day!!! We have about the same number of books again for the third week in a row. Last week’s slate of books were dominated by various titles from Image Comics. This week, things are more even with Image and DC leading the pack. This week’s picks include a few first issues as it did last week, with one title reaching its massive end after multiple volumes. With with that being said, check out our comic picks for April 19, 2023 below and visit a comic shop near you.
Our Top Picks
Kicking things off in our list for our comic picks for April 19, 2023, we have the final issue of DCeased: War of the Undead Gods from Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine at DC Comics. After multiple volumes and spin-offs, we finally reach the final issue of the epic saga. The heroes team up with some of their worse villains as well as new allies to face off in one final battle against the common entity – the primordial deity Erebos. Knowing Tom Taylor, you know someone dies. Only question is who.
Next up Boom Studios presents a new maxi-series – The Expanse: Dragon Tooth #1 written by Andy Diggle with art by Rubine. The publisher brings the successful Kickstarter campaign to comic shops everywhere. Set after the end of the final season of the Amazon fan-favorite series, Dragon Tooth takes a deeper look at some of the series’ favorite characters. It also looks to tie the threads to some unanswered questions from the end of the TV show.
Then we have the third issue of Static: Shadows of Dakota from Vita Ayala and Nikolas Draper-Ivey at DC Comics. The Bang Babies of Dakota are turning up missing and Static is out to find out why. This time he’s not alone. Elsewhere, Ebon continues his search for the whereabouts of his brother. Now, he’s cross over into the Blood Syndicate’s turf to look for him. They won’t take too kindly to that.
And Finally (for Theo)…
Finally, we have She-Hulk #12. It’s also the landmark 175th legacy issue of everyone’s favorite gamma-powered lawyer from Rainbow Rowell and a host of artist at Marvel Comics. What better way to celebrate such a landmark than to introduce readers to a new villain – Scoundrel.
As always, check back here next week at the Comic Book Spot for more picks & news.
