Fantastic Four #2 drops us right back in the action and we are in the far distant future with Sue. She’s struggling to locate the Forever Stone that everyone else in the team had managed to locate with a fair amount of ease.

Sue wastes no time in getting to work searching for this stone. Using a combination of her powers and putting herself into Reed’s shoes she quickly manages to get herself out of the predicament she finds herself in and manages to reunite herself with the rest of the group. They get back to their time and confront Doom who had split them up in the first place in the first issue. The confrontation doesn’t go well as they find themselves having to go back in time once more, potentially causing more issues within the time stream.

Ryan North has done some fantastic work – forgive the pun. Concluding the events of the first issue so quickly, it allows him to set up for the rest of the arc in an action packed manner and pulls you in to the story wanting to know what’s going to happen next. It also asks how exactly will they end up dealing with the threat that Doom is posing currently. We have been left to think about how it can be dealt with as they have already had to deal with dealings in the timeline so far.

But twists are what we are accustomed to as comic book readers and fans. And the twists are exactly what I can’t wait for in this series. There looks to be a good few of them to come if these first couple of issues are anything to go by.

Humberto Ramos has done an excellent job at keeping the consistency of the first couple of issues, though with the kind of story that is currently being told in Fantastic Four #2, consistency is important. With the first issue being left on such a cliffhanger if the art style had changed too much I don’t think it would of had quite the impact that the whole issue did.

The different use of perspectives and close ups work extremely well, although I’m unsure if it was intentional or not, but one of the close ups of Reed seems a little out of form. This did make me raise an eyebrow at the point and think, it’s been perfect up to now, but what is this? But then the rest of Fantastic Four #2 is perfect after that too. Ramos has also used a great amount of detail in his background’s throughout the issue. I love when an artist does this as it shows that the environment that the main subject of the panel is in is just as important as the character themselves.

Colourist, Edgar Delgado has done an fantastic job on the colour choices for Fantastic Four #2. It’s bright, striking and visually appealing that gets better with each page turn. With having the likes of bright blues and green’s it really makes the issue pop and stand out. Top job!

Final Thoughts

Fantastic Four #2 is developing really well in this Arc of the new Fantastic Four series and I’m looking forward to see where the creative team take it. In regards to the creative team, I think they’ve really pulled together and created a wonderful book that works well story wise, complimented beautifully with some incredible pencil work and colour choices from the artists. Please guys, keep up this amazing work!
